Showplots + Yield Contests

South Dakota Corn Showplots program

Showplots South Dakota Corn Showplots program invites producers to compare the performance of various hybrids grown side-by-side under certain conditions. It also gives you a chance to meet agribusiness representatives face-to-face.

A variety of seed companies participate in the showplots program. These seed companies are advised of plot locations and asked to furnish up to three hybrids per plot, at a charge of $75 per hybrid.

In the fall, we hold Field Days to showcase the hybrids grown for the program. And after harvest, we publish results in a booklet that we send to all members and seed representatives. (Download the LATEST SHOWPLOT RESULTS updated 10/19/12)

To participate as a showplots co-operator, you must be a member of South Dakota Corn Growers Association. You should not have received a refund from the checkoff program for the previous 12 months. And you should review showplots rules and agree to abide by them. If interested, please contact South Dakota Corn at (605) 334-0100.

NCGA Corn Yield Contest

Advanced production techniques, informed growing practices, improved seed varieties—corn growers put everything they know into achieving the highest yields in the National Corn Growers Association National Corn Yield Contest.

Winners receive national recognition in publications such as the NCYC guide, as well as awards from participating sponsoring seed, chemical and crop protection companies.

After each contest, a group of NCGA corn growers review NCYC rules and approve changes to streamline contest entry and to ensure the accuracy, integrity and credibility of the harvest process.

To participate as an NCGA contest supervisor, please call the NCGA office at (636) 733-9004 for more information.
