Reno Brueggeman, who farms north of Miller, is no stranger to the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council. A past member of the Council’s board, he returned to the Council in 2021.
He says farmers should take a proactive approach in sharing farm facts with the public. Public misperceptions in our industry about GMOs, ethanol, water and air quality, and continued pressures from the EPA, are just a few of the biggest challenges facing our industry today.
“We as farmers need to be vocal on educating non-farmers and ranchers about the true facts of what farming and ranching is and how we strive to bring the safest food supply to the world market. We need to continue to work on future sources for our state’s No. 1 commodity through livestock development and expanded ethanol usage.”
Brueggeman is a Miller High School graduate and has a degree in marketing/management/sales from Lake Area Tech in Watertown.
He and his brother are involved in a fourth-generation, diversified farming operation that consists of corn, soybeans and wheat. The brothers also own and operate Brueggeman Crop Services, a Channel seed dealership and crop insurance agency. He also serves on the Miller School Board, Miller Golf Course Board, Miller Booster Club Board, and Clerk of Florence Township Board in Hand County.
Reno and his wife Laura have a son Derek, a daughter Bailey, and triplets Ashlyn, Brynlee, and Colby. Reno said he chose to farm because he has a strong passion for agriculture. He and his wife grew up on family farms and want to pass that same way of life and work ethic on to their children.
In his spare time, he likes to golf, go camping and boating, and attend all of his children's sporting events.
